Merivale Somme Street Retirement Village in St Albans, Christchurch is a 4,020m2 facility providing 22 ensuite care apartments at ground floor level and 47 first floor care facility units on the first floor.
Due to the residential location, the project required resource consent, and consideration of surrounding dwellings. The design was carefully considered to break up the form and scale of the building and present a high quality feel – sensitive to the neighbouring residences but also maximising the allowable site coverage.
Each floor provides lounge and dining facilities, with a commercial kitchen and laundry on the ground floor.
Additional facilities include a reading lounge, cafe, hair salon and bar.
Each apartment opens onto a private outdoor area, with a shared central courtyard providing sheltered communal space.
