WELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM
CLIENT: ministry of education | consultant ENGINEER: DUNNING THORNTON | service consultant: norman disney young | COMPLETED: OCTOBER 2012
This building is the largest of three projects undertaken concurrently at the school, the other projects included a new commercial training kitchen and a staff room upgrade.
Master planning was a key aspect of the project due to the tight site and its steep topography limiting both the development of the current project and any future projects.
A raw and durable industrial palette of materials which included, zincalume, exposed steel, mesh and plywood was selected to echo the surrounding school buildings with their expressed concrete frame structures.
