Natureland’s new capuchin monkey enclosure takes shape

We’re pleased to share our involvement in Natureland Nelson’s latest development: the design of a new capuchin monkey enclosure.
JTB Architects is supporting this project, which aims to elevate the habitat while enhancing the visitor experience.
Stage I of the redevelopment is well underway, with the removal of the old perimeter fence and mound, and the moat has been successfully dug. Following the installation of the new fence, the project will progress to Stage II, focusing on the construction of the capuchins’ new den.
The enclosure’s extended outdoor area, surrounded by a natural moat, offers an enriched environment for the capuchins, ensuring their safety within a more natural setting. The design also incorporates a covered den for shelter and a dedicated staff back-of-house space to improve operational efficiency. Visitors will benefit from a thoughtfully designed walkway, offering clear views without disrupting the enclosure’s aesthetic.

Additionally, the nearby picnic area is being redeveloped to create a cohesive, inviting space for all. With earthworks now underway, this marks the start of an exciting transformation.
We look forward to seeing this project come to life. For those wishing to support Natureland’s conservation efforts, donations can be made here.
