The Nelson/Tasman intensification strategy proposes the accommodation of future growth by identifying areas of the existing urban fabric that can support intensification whilst enabling edge growth as 'green-field' development.  This strategy allows efficient use of existing infrastructure, efficient use of scarce land resources, more sustainable and good planning practice and is aligned with a trend to smaller households and supports public transport options.
